Updated “Records I Want/Need/Desire” List
So, it’s been a while since I last updated this list. I must be clear that I usually prefer original pressings to re-issues, but I make exceptions when the re-issue is way too good to pass up (like better sounding re-mastered copies) or when the re-issue is done by the original label (Dischord Records for example has been re-issuing a lot of their stuff).

Discoparlante 001
Part of the reason I started Discoparlante 5 years ago while living in Santiago, Chile was to self-release some of the musical projects I was taking part of or that close friends of mine were taking part of within Chile’s independent punk scene. It was a pretty modest project that never really took off in a serious manner. The first two releases were demo’s of sorts, both of post Redencion 9-11 bands. The third was a split release with a Washington, DC label of a CD Ep by Red Line Index.
Illuminati (or La Orden Secreta de Illuminati) was the first musical project I was involved in after playing in Redencion 9-11 for over five years (I’ll write more about R9-11 later). Illuminati was me on vocals and guitar; Alejandro O. on bass; and Pablo G. on drums. I don’t quite remember how this band got started but I do remember that it took me a really long time to find people I felt comfortable with in a band setting. I met both Alejandro and Pablo through my then girlfriend and both were at least 3-4 years younger than me so it felt a little bit awkward at first. In spite of the age difference, we worked great together as band. Songs just seemed to come to us and in no time we had a decent repertoir. I was listening to a lot of British post-punk (Swell Maps, Gang of Four, Wire) as well as Husker Du, Rites of Spring and Nation of Ulysses at the time and I think you can definitely hear those influences in these tracks.
Illuminati existed for about a year, during which we recorded this demo and played a few shows in the cities of Santiago, Valparaiso, Chillan, Quillota, Los Andes and Concepcion; these are all cities in Chile.
This demo was recorded at Koala Studios and I think it sounds pretty decent for having been recorded in about 4 hours. Illuminati was more of a “live band” though, we would extend songs in length and play around with them as well as improvise a lot which made it a lot of fun. Anyways, here is the info…

New Track by the BLC
I have added a new track by the Black Light Collective on the myspace page. It’s called “Rock Creek String Duet”. Sounds pretty neat, check it out here.
Also, I will soon be adding some info and tracks from previous Discoparlante releases, not that anyone cares or actually checks this website. But just in case, I like to put stuff out there that has some sort of historical/emotional importance to me.
Love to all,
J.D.S.

The Black Light Collective - Momentum!
Discoparlante was once an independent label based out of Santiago, Chile. During it’s short lifetime, three albums were released in CD format. I will write more about that later and hopefully make some of that music available for listening and downloading. Now… I am once again interested in getting on board the “do-it-yourself independent music” thing but the lack of funds is a real problem. Therefore, my first attempt at putting some form of music out there is going to be via free-share-download. All kinds of feedback are welcome.
So, I now present to you DSCPRLNT 004 in digital format.
